The spatial videos from the iPhone 15 Pro can be converted into Full Side By Side Clips with the Spatialify app. (It works on both iOS and on the Mac.)
Currently (version Fcpx 10.7.1), Final Cut Pro X does not support direct editing of MV-HEVC 3D videos, so the files needed to be converted to full SBS clips.
Launch Spatialify and select the spatial video clip you wish to convert.
Export your file as Full Side by Side (I want the highest quality and resolution, so I choose Full Side By Side (3840x1080) with Horizontal Disparity Adjustment. This option means no additional need to adjust stereo window.)
Once the file is done converting, SAVE the new file.
(The exported file will have FSBS in the name)
Import the Full SBS files into Final Cut Pro X into a new event.
Let's start editing:
Create a new project at 4K, 30fps.
Transform the clips by scaling Y to 200%.
(If you are doing multiple clips --- copy and paste attributes from one clip to the rest to make it easier)
Once project editing is complete, I export a high quality ProRes movie.
Next, I use ffworks (ffmpeg front end) to encode the ProRes file into a MKV with the proper metadata for YouTube.
My preset adds the following metadata to the General>Custom Encode options
-x264opts "frame-packing=3" -metadata:s:v:0 stereo_mode=left_right
The encoded MKV is ready for upload to YouTube.
One could do a Final Cut Pro Project as 3840x1080 at 30fps without doing the scaling of Y and it would work fine that way also, but you may have to set the aspect ratio as 16:9 when encoding the final file for YouTube.
